Porto and Lisbon are the friendliest cities in Europe

The British magazine compiled a list of the 10 friendliest cities in Europe and 2 Portuguese cities made it to the list! Porto came in fourth place and Lisbon came fifth!

Why are people so happy here?

Well, if you’ve been to Portugal before, you would know that this country is filled with beautiful historic cities, world-renowned cuisine, breathtaking natural landscapes, some of Europe’s most spectacular beaches and the country’s incredibly cheap deals! The average cost of living in Lisbon is 47% lower than in New York and 55% cheaper than in London. So with the sun, sea, beautiful weather and a low cost of living, it’s no surprise that Portuguese people are so happy and that the country has also been recognized for the 4th time as the Best Destination in the World!

How do I meet these friendly people?

Now it’s a little bit more difficult due to COVID. As of November 2020, Wearing a mask is compulsory in shopping centers, shops, public transport, or enclosed areas. Currently, it is also mandatory to wear masks in public places including in the streets, beaches, or any outside activity. You don’t need to wear a mask if you are dining in restaurants and bars in open-air spaces. The Portuguese government is keeping an eye on the number of cases very frequently and may change policies where necessary.

However, there are many social/Intercambio groups that have moved online. Facebook is a great way to find these social groups and join the club. This is a great way to make Portuguese friends and practice learning the language.

The most obvious way to meet them of course is to also go there yourself! The Portuguese boarders are still open to tourists as to date but click here to stay up to date on the current situation in Portugal.
