PORTUGAL FACE MASK LIFT & EU-CITIZEN COVID-19 TESTING

Planning to travel to Portugal this year? With the ease of restriction from the pandemic, travelling this spring-summer to sunny Portugal will definitely be less chaotic. The Portuguese government after much deliberation with medical experts and data analysis on the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic has ultimately decided to finally lift the country fully from its previous safety measures.

As of February 9, 2022, the lifting of negative covid-19 testing (PCR) is no longer required for the autonomous regions of Azores & Madeira, and also for mainland Portugal. However, the vaccination certificate is an ongoing requirement at this time, and access to Portugal shall be granted to travellers who hold a valid EU COVID-19 Digital Certificate or any other proof of vaccination that is recognized under EU for travel purposes.

This confirms that travellers from the European Union and Schengen Area are fully eligible to travel freely to Portugal without being subjected to additional testing requirements that were originally placed; not to mention the headaches involved with travel delays due to invalid testing times, and additional testing expenses. Apart from Portugal, many other European countries have also removed and eased restrictions; this is a huge relief for travellers visiting and holding connecting flights through Lisbon, Porto, or Faro airports.

Portugal has also lifted the mandatory use of face masks at all times in public spaces; with the exclusion of highly vulnerable areas, such as hospitals and public transport. This means that travellers can safely enjoy visiting Portugal this spring-summer season, as the warm weather temperatures continue to rise for plenty of escapes by the Portuguese coast.
