TAP's chairman, Miguel Frastilho, considers Asia to be an unavoidable continent in the future for the network of routes operated by the airline, as it is the most dynamic region of the world at the moment, especially in the tourism sector.
“Last year we had 300,000 Chinese tourists in Portugal. This year we should have over 350,000 tourists from China in Portugal. I have no doubt that in the medium term TAP will fly to China, ” he insisted.
At the moment, the most easterly destinations served by TAP are Moscow, Russia, and Tel Aviv (Israel).
TAP's chairman highlighted the company's focus on North America, the United States and Canada, Brazil, as well as Africa.
With the scheduled opening of the route between Lisbon and Montréal in Canada in the coming months, TAP will now serve 13 destinations in North America.
Regarding Brazil, Manuel Frasquilho announced the opening of another destination, Maceió, in the northeast, and stressed that "TAP is the company with the most seats available among Europe in Brazil."

Concerning Africa, he said that the national airline “is the second airline with the most flights on the European continent, just after Air France”.
Miguel Frasquilho claims that since the number of Chinese tourists to Portugal has increased over the past eight years by two digits year-on-year, the "numbers speak for themselves” and also “not only Chinese, we are talking about South Korean, Japanese, even Indian tourists are growing a lot.”
TAP will start flying to China soon, however Miguen emphasizes that “it may not be for the year yet, but it will certainly be in the medium term”.
