Cool Lisbon! Three tips to enjoy Portugal's Capital.

Three tips of what to do at the Lusitanian capital

Is Portugal your next destination? Take a look at our suggestions for a good time spent in the capital, Lisbon!

Smelling of grilled sardines in the summer and roasted chestnuts in the winter, Lisbon is provocative of your senses in the form of an amphitheatre facing the Tagus River. With its narrow alleyways and jaw-dropping views, the city pulsates. Whether by trade, with local brands that are a must see or by mouthwatering gastronomy. And as if the sun, which shines almost all year long, was considered by the American CNN as the coolest European capital of the moment. Do you want to know why? We'll tell you.

Shopping paradise

The coolest neighbourhood of the moment is called Príncipe Real. This is where the best independent shops (100% Portuguese) are housed and houses the monumental commercial space Embaixada - an old neo-Arab palace dating from the 19th century. The Embaixada, full of stylish stores and unique character, also features temporary art exhibitions. Are you hungry? Try the Atalho Real, with a terrace in the palace gardens.

Out-of-the-Box Tour: LX Factory

In 1846 it was one of the most important industrial complexes in Lisbon. Later in the 2000s (and from the ruins of the old factories), the LX Factory urban project was born, the city's biggest creativity centre - a kind of underground "island" for arts, fashion, advertising and design companies. In addition, there are also several commercial spaces and cafes, attracting a large number of visitors daily. If we add all this to special events such as Open Day, a day dedicated to exhibitions, music and other activities, and LX Market, an outdoor market where antiques and fashion and design items are sold. All of this business and cultural activity explains why the LX Factory is considered one of "the" hip spots of the moment in Lisbon.

Where gastronomy celebrates: Mercado da Ribeira

The old Mercado da Ribeira, opened in 1882, has a new face since 2014. The market space, which has 5500 sqm, has become a large food court, curated by the magazine "Time Out". In total, 30 restaurants of different styles under the same roof, offering everything from organic food to the prêt-à-manger cuisine of renowned chefs such as Henrique Sá Pessoa, Alexandre Silva or Vítor Claro. There are also traditional houses, such as Santini, considered the best ice cream in the country, Honorato, gourmet hamburgers sensation in Lisbon, and Prego da Peixaria, delicacy sandwiches. It's a successful arrangement, for sure!
