Ways to enjoy Oeiras to the fullest with your family

Oeiras is in the western part of the Lisbon metropolitan area. It is one of the most highly developed municipalities in both Portugal and Europe. Oeiras offers a mild climate all year round, so it is a perfect place to choose to relocate to.

Jardim Marques de Pombal

Jardim Marquês de Pombal 

This is a museum with garden walks and is a very iconic attraction around the Oeiras area. Here, you can look around the magnificent views that the garden has to offer, as well as going into the palace itself (which was built in the 18th century). 

Jardim Marquês de Pombal also offers other activities for visitors to do. These include plays to watch, light shows in the evening and they sometimes put on concerts for visitors to watch!

This attraction is a must-do for all the family as they have something that each member of the family will enjoy. A bonus to this attraction is on Sundays it is free entry, so this attraction can be a cheap day out for the whole family to enjoy! Tickets to this attraction cost €3 but the gardens and cellar are both free of charge.

 

São Julião Da Barra Fortress

This is another popular attraction that the whole family can enjoy. It is one of the largest and complete military defenses in Portugal. It is located in SãoSao Juliao da Barra Fortress Julião da Barra, which is an eight-minute drive from the centre of Oeiras (via avenue Marginal). You can also get to this attraction via train which takes roughly 20 minutes (via. Linha de Cascais) and by car, it should take roughly 8 minutes (by also taking the avenue marginal route). 

This fortress is currently the residence of the Portuguese Minister of National Defence. It is also one of the largest sea defense structures in Portugal and was originally constructed to guard the Tagus River and Lisbon sea bound invasion. The fort also marks the mouth of Rio Tejo.

Espaço de Jogo e Recreio do Jamor

This park/playground is perfect for a family day out. The main attraction is the huge mini-golf course that is free to use. Other activities that you can do here is canoeing, running, an exercise park with equipment and riding tracks are also available. For younger children, there are a large playground and football fields that they can use.

Parque do JamorParque Urbano do Jamor 

The next attraction is perfect for those families who are relocating with younger children. Parque Urbano do Jamor is an adventure park located in Oeiras. The adventure park has lots of different wood stations that are on top of trees, making this a fun and exciting day for children. 

Beaches to enjoy in Oeiras 

  • Praia de Santo Amaro 

A popular spot in the summer, this particular beach also offers umbrellas for shade protection if needed. There are refreshments nearby, so it is a perfect spot for a family day out. 

  • Praia da Torre beach

This particular beach is a small, family-friendly one offering scenic views. There is a nearby restaurant available as well as shops and cafes.
