A famous neighbourhood in Lisbon is Alcântara, one of the main nightlife centres in the Portuguese capital, with many nightclubs scattered around the old factories, at the coast of the Tejos river, one of the attractions for the city's inhabitants and tourists. Alcantara has also had very significant participation in the history of Portugal as a united country. In 1580, the Battle of Alcântara took place between the troops of António, Prior do Crato, and Filipe II of Spain (that was claiming the crown of Portugal). After the victory of Filipe, Portugal falls into years of Spanish domain.
