With the Portuguese summer heat and after months of confinement, what you feel like these days is to catch some air outside, at the beach, take a stroll by the sea and take a few dives, relax in the sand and have a drink at the beach bar. But with the Covid-19 pandemic, these summer programmes have to be done with special care, to prevent further contagion and stop the outbreak.
On very hot days, like the ones we experience this time of the year, there is nothing like putting your slippers on, grabbing a towel and heading to a beach. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, you must know the rules for going to the beach safely:
On the beach:
Next to the beaches, there will be a sign indicating their state of occupation.
In the access to the beach and, already in the sand, be sure to maintain a distance of 1.5 meters relative to other users that do not belong to your group.
On crosswalks, walls and sidewalks, as well as in sanitary facilities, use appropriate footwear and follow the indications that may exist on the floor.
Umbrellas, awnings and stems must be at least 3 meters apart. The rental of awnings, stems or tents will be made by reference to two shifts: the morning until 1:30 pm and the afternoon from 2 pm.
The use of pedalos, slides, indoor showers for body or feet is prohibited. The same applies to sports activities, as well as massages and similar activities, involving 2 or more people.
Outdoor body or foot showers, sun loungers, mattresses, beach ashtrays, can be used and are subject to cleaning and hygiene rules, defined by the General Directorate of Health.
Nautical activities, surf lessons and similar sports are allowed, as long as they respect the maximum number of 5 participants per instructor, and the recommended physical safety distance between each participant, both on land and at sea.
People with reduced mobility will have to ensure that hygiene and safety procedures are complied with, namely regarding the cleaning of amphibious chairs.
Street vending is allowed on the beaches, which should preferably be done through the corridors for the circulation of beach users.
Sellers must wear a mask or visor and respect the rules of physical safety distance when contacting users.
At the beach bar
Supports and beach bars are considered to be food and beverage establishments, so the same rules apply as they would always apply to establishments located outside the beach area.
