House in Sintra, Rua Doutor Higino de Sousa

Four-bedroom villa/chalet with 450 sqm of gross construction area, located in the mythical town of Sintra, just 20 minutes from Lisbon. This singular property is integrated into one of the most emblematic Portuguese cultural landscapes, recognized by UNESCO for its historical and natural richness, where the mountains meet the Atlantic in a setting of unparalleled beauty.
The residence stands out for its expressive Alpine and Romantic-inspired architecture, characteristic of the late 19th century. The stone façade, decorative elements in red-toned worked wood, wrought iron balconies, and ornate eaves give the building a remarkable architectural presence, in perfect harmony with the Sintra landscape.
The interior layout reveals a thoughtfully designed organisation that carefully separates the social areas from the private spaces. The entrance floor features a hall leading to two spacious interconnected living rooms, where an imposing fireplace defines the atmosphere and large windows frame the surrounding garden, establishing a privileged connection with the outdoors. The lower floor accommodates the living area, dining room, equipped kitchen with storage and sanitary facilities, always maintaining a visual and functional connection with the exterior space.
The upper floors contain the private zone. On the first floor, a suite and two additional bedrooms, all served by a bathroom and with access to a continuous wrought iron balcony. The attic, with its exposed wooden ceiling, provides a welcoming and secluded atmosphere, integrating bedroom, lounge, and bathroom.
The restoration work prioritized the preservation of original elements, combining them with contemporary comfort technologies. Radiant floor heating and central heating coexist harmoniously with solid wood joinery, high skirting boards, noble flooring, and a remarkable ceiling height of approximately four meters. From the balconies, one enjoys a stunning panoramic view over the verdant Sintra Park, highlighting the iconic Pena Palace and the ocean on the horizon.
The property also includes an autonomous two-bedroom residence with 133 sqm, completely independent and ideal for welcoming guests or providing complementary use. This unit, renovated respecting the traditional rustic character, maintains wooden shutters and terracotta tile flooring, now equipped with modern central heating. It is distributed over two levels: the lower level concentrates the social areas with living room, dining room, kitchen, sanitary facilities, storage, and wine cellar; the upper floor is dedicated to the private zone with two bedrooms and full bathroom.
The garden constitutes a fundamental element of this chalet, conceived as a true contemplation space. Century-old plane trees, Japanese cherry, wisteria, abundant rose bushes, bougainvillea, and camellias create a bucolic atmosphere of remarkable beauty. A small pond adds serenity to the landscaped ensemble. The property also has an annex with laundry and outdoor support bathroom.
It benefits from proximity to the classified monuments and gardens that make the town of Sintra globally recognized. The combination of accessibility to the capital, surrounding natural and cultural heritage, and the characteristic tranquility of the mountains, gives this chalet a truly privileged position. This is a rare opportunity to acquire not only a residence of exceptional character, but an authentic testimony to Sintra's architectural romanticism, ideal for those who value history, distinction, and incomparable quality of life.
